In this essay I will compare the presentation of family in digging
In this essay I will compare the presentation of family in digging with at least one other poem in identity. I have chosen to select Follower. The title of the poem Digging could refer to turning over soil for planting or harvesting, or digging deeper to uncover some sort of treasure. Alternatively the poet could be thinking of digging up the past, or uncovering some secret hidden in the past. The poem is written from the poetââ¬â¢s perspective and there is no doubt that this poem is about a writer for in the opening lines we learn that: ââ¬ËBetween my finger and my thumb The squat pen rests...ââ¬â¢ The poet is writing in his room which is upstairs and overlooks the garden. His attention is caught by the ââ¬Ëclean rasping soundââ¬â¢ of a spade digging into the ââ¬Ëgravelly groundââ¬â¢. The poet looks out and sees his father digging as he has done for twenty years. Heaney describes his father with great admiration for his strength and skill as a farmer. The poet reflects ruefully on the skill that his father and grandfather possessed with a spade. He is slightly in awe of them as he celebrates their skills and he regrets his own inability to wield a spade. The careful, deliberate, way his father cuts into the earth with his spade makes digging for peat sound like a skilled craft: ââ¬ËThe course boot nestled on the lug, the shaft.ââ¬â¢ When the poet describes his father uncovering the potatoes he uses alliteration again in ââ¬Ëtall topsââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëburied the bridge edge deepââ¬â¢ to capture the sharp, precise sound of the spade entering the soil. When the poet hears the sound of his fathers spade digging he lets us hear it to in the word ââ¬Ëraspingââ¬â¢, an onomatopoeia, and in the hard alliterative sound of ââ¬Ëgravelly groundââ¬â¢. In digging the dis... ... him the child: ââ¬ËFell sometimes on the polished sod; sometimes he rode me on his back.ââ¬â¢ This conveys to the reader just how close the relationship was between father and son but it also shows how following him was not always easy on the rough ground. Now he is grown up though it is his father who is the follower and he now keeps stumbling and ââ¬Ëwill not go awayââ¬â¢ Even though the word ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢ is never used in the poem, it is obviously the word that best describes the basis of the relationship existing between Heaney and his father. The poem is very much a personal experience, but it has a much wider significance relating to any kind of hero ââ¬â worship by a ââ¬Ëfollowerââ¬â¢. Now that he is himself an adult, Heaney acknowledges that the father he hero worshipped as a young boy has grown old and needs as much tolerance and patience as he himself once showed his son.

How Is Technology Affecting People Psychologically? Essay
In 1922, a doctorââ¬â¢s kit was the most desired toy in the United States. Almost all toys on the website ââ¬Å"Hot Holiday Toys for 2012â⬠were either electronic or electronic related. These toys range from Furbuddy, an electronic pet that talks, to Nintendo and Wiiââ¬â¢ games and gaming systems. What impact is technology having on people? Today, with thousands of video games offered; nearly 1 billion users on Facebook; and the average person checking their phone close to 75 times per day, one can only wonder how this affects people psychologically. This can be seen in how the internet offers amazing information and opportunities that have changed the way people communicate. Internet World Stats website cites that the internet users have grown over 566% since 2000. Ease of access to information and communication is, of course, a big reason to use the internet, but is there more to it? Is the ability to control completely the information one reads and the people one interacts with a part of this draw to the internet? The person who holds the mouse is in control when he or she surfs the web. He or she chooses which sites to go to and which people to interact with. In many ways the user feels safe. If something negative online occurs, one can simply exit the site. On Facebook, if someone posts something the user doesnââ¬â¢t like, the user can block the sender or ââ¬Å"unfriendâ⬠the offending person. Unfortunately, this negative online interaction is all too frequent. Cyber bullying is the act of bullying using electronic technology. It has become so serious that laws have been passed to outlaw it; going as far as jail time. Cyber bullying occurs with one out of six children. It can be devastating because it can happen 24 hours per day and every day of the week. The worst part about Cyber bullying is that it can even happen when the victim is alone. Cyberbullying Research Center states, ââ¬Å"There have been many high profile and tragic incidents in the media in recent years which have linked adolescent suicides to experiences with cyber bullying.â⬠The technology used in this type of bullying ranges from cell phones, social media sites, to chat rooms. It has become such a problem that many schools have created programs to discuss the harmful effects it causes. Cyber bullying is an example of the disinhibition effect. Psychologists have created this term meaning when people online loosen up, feel more uninhibited, and express themselves more than they ever would in a face to face conversation. It can be threatening and hurtful as in cyber bullying; or it can be what psychologist call benign disinhibition. This is when a person reveals secret emotions, fears and wishes. The user may share too much about themselves, but overall it is not harmful. This sharing of experiences has been seen as a very positive experience when regarding veterans. Many times soldiers come back from war and have feelings about their experiences that they feel civilians do not understand. Sites and chat rooms have been created to fill this need. As John Suler author of The Psychology of Cyberspace states they donââ¬â¢t have to worry about how others look or sound when they ââ¬Å"sayâ⬠something. Seeing a frown, a shaking head, a sigh, a bored expression, and many other signs of disapproval or indifference can stop what people are willing to express. Not being able to see expressions of a personââ¬â¢s feelings, leads to one expressing themselves more openly. This has created support for not just veterans, but others who reach out to people ââ¬Å"like themâ⬠so they can connect and feel understood. Another group who seek to connect with each other are gamers. Video games have exploded in popularity since 1947. Now over 72 percent of the Americans play video games. Video games have been proven to increase decision-making skills which come in handy in a fast-paced world. They have also been proven to improve men and womenââ¬â¢s ability to picture 3D objects states U.S Department of Defense researchers. However, as much they may be helping gamers with thinking skills; violent video games are certainly not helping with violent behavior. A study was done with two groups of college students; group one played a violent video game and group two played a nonviolent video game. The researchers measured how the students felt and how they behaved. Social Psychologist Brad Bushman at Ohio State University showed the groups two violent pictures: one of a man shoving a gun down another manââ¬â¢s throat; another of a man holding a knife to a womanââ¬â¢s throat. ââ¬Å"What we found is for people who were exposed to a lot of violent video games; their brains did not respond to the violent images,â⬠Bushman said. ââ¬Å"They were numb, if you will.â⬠People who play violent video games become numb to the violence they see. Knowing this, one may find it disturbing to know that the top three most sold video games in the US, are all listed by Parenting website in ââ¬Å"The 10 most violent video games to avoid.â⬠list. Does playing violent video games increase violence or just make the user numb to it? That is still to be determined. The positive effects of technology are as endless as imagination. The amazing ability to instantly have knowledge at your fingertips any time of the day or night is one benefit it is hard to imagine being without. Being able to connect with a friend continents away is a wonderful gift that keeps people in touch with each other. But like most things; technology has a negative side like cyber bullying; and the violence in video games open to children a keystroke away. Technology has no doubt changed the world, but the question becomes does the positive outweigh the negative and if so, what should be done about the negative aspects?

Censorship from Obscene Material - 1066 Words
Censorship From Obscene Material Today, in the 1990s, citizens in our society are being bombarded with obscene material from every direction. From the hate lyrics of Guns N Roses to the satanic lyrics of Montley Crue and Marilyn Manson to the sexually explicit graphical content of todays movies, the issue is how much society is going to permit and where we, as a society, should we draw the line. The freedom of speech has always been considered a right, but that doesnt mean that you can shout, Fire! in a crowded movie theater. The real question is whether such material is harmful or dangerous to our society. Many people are asking whether or not we should censor offensive material. They believe that some material is tooâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The critics of this point of view think that private-sector censorship will not be enough. They believe that the entertainment industry will not be able to control itself. Private-sector restrictions do not have the authority of the law, therefore they cannot succes sfully draw the line between what can and cannot be said in public. The third and final possible solution is no censorship at all. While many Americans are troubled by what they feel is offensive speech, and feel that it should be restricted by law, advocates of the third solution disagree. They feel that there is more harm in restricting free speech than by the offensive speech itself. In the bill of rights, the first amendment says, Congress shall make no long abridging the freedom of speech. The first amendment was intended to protect the minorities from the tyranny of the majorities. The advocates of this view feel that the minority has a right to express themselves regardless of the opinion of the majority. Free speech matters because it encourages creativity. Without the freedom of speech, America would probably be dull and drab like a communist country such as the former USSR. Thomas Maloryââ¬â¢s Le Morte Darthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grail Professorââ¬â¢s comment: This student uses a feminist approach to shift our value judgment of two works in a surprisingly thought-provoking way. After showing how female seduction in Maloryââ¬â¢s story of King Arthur is crucial to the story as a whole, the student follows with an equally serious analysis of Monty Pythonââ¬â¢s parody of the female seduction motif in what may be the most memorable and hilarious episode of the film. Much of the humor in Monty Python and the Holy Grail derives from the pure absurdity of its characters and situations. Comparing Oedipus and Prufrock Free Essays
Everyone has at least one personal flaw that somehow overcomes or defeats them in a certain place in time. In this essay, two characters of completely different fields will be put side by side to compare their own tragic flaws. On one hand, Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus is proud, arrogant and persistent; while on the other hand, Eliotââ¬â¢s Prufrock is self conscious, insecure, and indecisive. We will write a custom essay sample on Comparing Oedipus and Prufrock or any similar topic only for you Order Now While the two characters are complete polar opposites, they also share a devastating similarity: they are paranoid and in fear of their own fate. Oedipusââ¬â¢ personality is clearly conveyed as having excessive pride and determination throughout the play. He first travels far from Corinth to prevent an oracleââ¬â¢s prediction that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He arrives in Thebes where the people were distressed over the Sphinxââ¬â¢s riddle. Oedipus then sets his mind on solving this riddle in which he succeeds and is awarded the throne to Thebes. This should have been a huge boost of confidence for a man who was worried he would be cursed for the rest of his life. He serves as a loyal King for his people, seeming to want to do the right thing for Thebes, but talks with such a conceited attitude. In the play, right after receiving news that the preceding kingââ¬â¢s killer is residing in Thebes, Oedipus states ââ¬Å"Well, I will start afresh and once again make dark things clear. Right worthy the concern of Phoebus, worthy thine too, for the dead; I also, as is meet, will lend my aid to avenge this wrong to Thebes and to the Godâ⬠(Sophocles). With both assurance and superiority in his voice, Oedipus throws it in Thebes face that he has saved them once before, and will do it again by bringing Laiusââ¬â¢ killer to justice. He sets out on finding the person that murdered King Laius and puts all of his energy, pride, and persistence into it. He acts as a great detective and follows each clue diligently. This helps the play revolve around the question of solving a crime (Rix). By putting together the pieces of the murder mystery, he finally begins to questions himself about his involvement in the assassination and even his own fate. Sophoclesââ¬â¢ Oedipus pursues self-knowledge and at the same time resists it because it may connect him with his past (Morgenstern). He eventually finds out that he is indeed his fatherââ¬â¢s killer and his motherââ¬â¢s husband. Oedipusââ¬â¢ tragic flaws of hubris and determination lead him to blind himself and be exiled just as e said would happen to the murderer if he was found. Unlike Oedipus, the character in T. S. Eliotââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrockâ⬠is timid, insecure and indecisive. Throughout the poem, Prufrock is faced with a decision to approach a woman he has developed a liking to, or remain looking out a lonely window drowning his self conscious ness in an ocean of self doubt. He wants to ask her the overwhelming question, but instead he purposefully avoids the woman by having personal detour conversations with himself about his self image. The entire poem is laced with Prufrock asking himself questions. He asks ââ¬Å"Do I dare disturb the universe? â⬠(Eliot) as if the whole world will come crashing down if he simply talks to her. He wants to wait for the right time, but in the same thought, he knows his years are running out; he mentions his bald spot and thin arms. Prufrock is so consumed with himself and how others might portray or judge him, that it is paralyzing him from social activities and gatherings. He is going through a mid life crisis that he may have brought on himself by leading an unproductive, bland life and his lack of determination and will to change that life may lead him into his fear of being lonely forever. Prufrock is essentially intimidated by women or people in general because he is ashamed of his personal appearance and monotony. One side of his personality believes in the possibility of having a relationship but the side of his self doubt and pity shackles him from living the life he is clearly screaming out for (Blythe). Towards the end of the poem, he realizes that he will never summon up the courage to talk to the person he admires. He gives up on himself and becomes aware that he has wasted his life asking himself if he should do the things he wanted to do instead of putting his plans to action. Where Oedipus is without a doubt expeditious, stern and decisive in his promises, J. Alfred Prufrock is deficient by being obsessed with taking his time, indifferent and unable to make a simple choice even for himself. However both of these characters share a haunting similarity of fearing the realization that their lives have finally come to a particular point they have been attempting to prevent their whole life. Sometimes life presents a person with a deficiency in personality which becomes highlighted in the spotlight while trying to correct that specific trait. In the Case of Oedipus and Prufrock, their own life flaws are over exaggerated and yet still overcorrected, in which they remain troubled with the things they hate about themselves. The two characters failed to avert a lingering curse which had been following them throughout, eventually sealing their fate with their own personal flaws. Managing Product and Service Innovation
Question: Discuss about the Managing Product and Service Innovation. Answer: Introduction: New product development (NPD) reflects the transformation of a new market opportunity into the available product and services. It has a central role regarding the prosperity of for organizations active in the market. NPDs potential benefits include improved resource utilization, improved market position, transformation, and renewal of the organization. NPDs ideal outcome is products with high potential that can able to achieve sales growth, high market share, profit objective and use in the market. The impact of NPD process is huge in the organizational business process. Since, it allows organization to introduce new product as per the need and demand of the market. As a result, it allows organization to gain competitive advantage in the market. Background of the product and company: In the previous part, I discussed the significance of NPD process for the Accenture Inc. I selected the Accenture, as it considered as one of the most innovative organization that continuously trying to innovate products and services in order to maintain its position in the market. In this report, I am looking to focus on the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software of Accenture in order to have an in-depth analysis of NPD process. Relevant theory: From the study, I found that product innovation process consist of several steps, which every organization has to follow. Otherwise, the objective of new product development will not fulfill. The product development process starts with ideation where organization tries to consider different types of idea (Bendoly, Bharadwaj Bharadwaj, 2012). I found that ideation allows organization to identify the best idea regarding the kind of product innovation will provide best benefit to the company (Fang, Lee Yang, 2015). Then the NPD process will have to consider the development of concept so that it can able to introduce new product successfully in the market. I found the next step of product development process is kind of business that the new product can potentially have on the market (Marion et al., 2015). I feel this is important, as it will help organization to decide the amount that needed to invest for the particular product innovation. The NPD process will have to consider technica l implementation process so that it can able to the organization can able to identify the required technology that needed for successful implementation of the process (Kahn et al., 2012). Then I found that organization would have to consider commercialization process so that the innovated product can able to have maximum amount of impact on the market. I found that Accenture one of the top organizations that keeps huge focus on its product development process so that it can help the company to maintain its position in the market. I also identified that effectiveness of the innovated product of Accenture is high because it performs all the steps in details, which allows the company to minimize the risk associate with NPD process. In case of development of PLM software, the first thing that Accenture will have to consider is to identify the kind of impact it can have on the business processes (Hwangbo, Cooper Tsekleves, 2015). Particularly in the IT industry, every organization is trying to capture major portion of the market. Therefore, I believe market potential assessment is one of the key NPD process. According to Ahmad, Mallick Schroeder (2013) new product development is the life of any organization regardless of its size. As I found that proficiency of new product can have huge amount of contribution in the success of any org anization. Here, I want mention a company namely Freshdesk. Since, the company has experience immense success after few years of its establishment. Currently, it considered as one of the prime cloud service solution providers of the entire world. I found the success of Freshdesk primarily because of its complete unique solution, which was not taken into consideration by other organization. However, I do know that Accenture belongs to a completely different level, as it is one of the prime companies of the world. Still I found that, if an organization able to innovate effective ideas, it will not take too long for a organization to move up to the ladder very quickly (Mac Chang, Bei Lou, 2014). I realize form the above mention process that idea generation and screening of ideas can actually make or break an entire business. Therefore, I believe it is up to the organization to utilize all this factors in such a way that it could able to capture major portion of the market. Impact of NPD process on business: I found that new product develop can affect the present level of business in a great way. I found that NPD allows organization to capture major portion of the market. Whereas, for the company like Accenture, which have already able to achieve major portion of the market with its innovative products and services NPD allows sustaining its growth for a long period of time (Rahmani, Emamisaleh Yadegari, 2015). In case of PLM software, it allows the organization to optimize the lifecycle of the implemented products. Therefore, organization can actually plan to implement all its resources in an effective manner. Therefore, I believe PLM software has huge potential that can have boost the revenue level of the organization. However, it also has certain amount of risk associated with it. Since, if the evaluation or selection of idea regarding the new product development cannot able to make the expected amount of impact in the market, it will cost huge financial loss for the company. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be mention that NPD is a significant process that every organization has to perform in order to maintain its position in the market. Accenture is also not an exception. Since, technological evaluation is inducing many other organizations to innovate new products in order to gain its position in the market. Hence, I can say that Accenture will have to implement NPD process effectively so that it can able to maintain its position in the market. References: Ahmad, S., Mallick, D. N., Schroeder, R. G.
